Actress Bobbie Faye Ferguson, mother of ‘Conners’ star Jay R. Ferguson, dead at 78

Bobbie Faye Ferguson, a veteran actress who appeared on “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Dallas” and “Designing Women,” has died. She was 78.

According to her obituary, Ferguson died June 25 in Sherman Oaks, California, from natural causes.

Ferguson was the mother of “The Conners” star Jay R. Ferguson, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She appeared with her son on “Evening Shade,” where the younger Ferguson portrayed Taylor Newton, son of Burt Reynolds and Marilu Henner’s characters, the entertainment website reported.

Bobbie Faye Ferguson was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on Oct. 10, 1943, Deadline reported. She grew up in Eudora, Arkansas and graduated with a degree in speech and communications from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, according to her obituary.

She also taught speech and debate at Skyline High School in Dallas and was a founding member and an acting teacher at the KD Studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After moving to Los Angeles, Ferguson landed roles on “The Fall Guy” and “Remington Steele,” according to IMDb.com.

During the 1990s, Ferguson was appointed by President Bill Clinton to launch NASA’s multimedia program in Washington, and she served as a spokesperson for the organization for seven years, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was hired as a consultant on space-related films such was “Space Cowboys” in 2000 and “Wild Blue Yonder” in 2005, according to the entertainment news outlet.
