Police: Michigan child, 4, killed by pellet gun in accidental shooting

BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 4-year-old child in Michigan died Friday night after being accidentally shot with a pellet gun, authorities said.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred at 7 p.m. EDT in Blendon Township, WWMT reported.

Officials did not provide the name or gender of the child, the television station reported.

Officers called to the scene administered medical treatment, and the child was taken to an area hospital, WXMI reported.

The child later died at the hospital, the television station reported.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unknown, WOOD-TV reported. Authorities did not release any other information, other than to say that the shooting was accidental.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incident, the television station reported.
