In a message on its website, The Laundress said it is working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and “Out of an abundance of caution, we continue to ask that you stop using any The Laundress products until our review is complete.”

The initial safety notice, published on The Laundress website on Nov. 17, warned customers to stop using the products due to the “potential presence of elevated levels of bacteria” in some products that caused a safety concern. The company said its investigation had not found any adverse effects from the products.

While many of the specialized detergents and soaps appear “out of stock” on the company’s website, the items remain available for some on Amazon, according to Rolling Stone.

“The minute we received the email, we pulled all of the product off our shelves and off our website,” Ian Ginsberg, president of C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries, told New York Magazine. “It is obviously pretty disturbing. As of yet, we have not received any other guidance and we’re just waiting.”

Because the investigation has not determined which specific products are impacted, The Laundress is asking all customers to keep their products if they would like reimbursement or replacement in the future, People reported.

The products are potentially contaminated with bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can cause infections, especially in people with compromised immune systems, according to Consumer Reports.
