CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. — At least 14 people were infected with the coronavirus after attending a high school graduation in New York, county officials said.

Now, all the attendees of Horace Greeley High School's Class of 2020 graduation June 20 must isolate until July 5, WCBS reported.

County officials said two families had traveled to Florida before attending the event and each had an individual with positive coronavirus test results, WABC reported.

A crowd of nearly 300 ignored social distancing and other safety protocols, WCBS reported.

“Nearly no one was wearing a mask,” attendee Sarah Alvi told WCBS. “It was as if COVID hadn’t even existed for the last three months.”

Police said they made an effort to enforce mask wearing.

“Two officers were going through the crowd. They were putting reminders out there. We did not issue any summonses. Most people were complying while the officers went through. In fact, those two officers, now we have them quarantining, too,” New Castle police Lt. James Dumser said.

Officials said there is a limit to enforcement.

"There are not enough police in the world to come to your front door to make you do what you know is right," Westchester County Executive George Latimer told WABC.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a travel quarantine June 18 for those returning from eight states including Arizona, Florida and Texas.
