SAN ANSELMO, Calif. — What do you do when you find a bear perched in a tree in your backyard? Let it be.
The black bear caused a ruckus in a neighborhood north of San Francisco by scaling a tree, authorities said Wednesday. The animal prompted wildlife response teams and police units to descend on the property, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife sent an officer to the neighborhood, KGO reported. The bear attempted to shimmy down the tree before the wildlife official arrived, but police made noise with pots and pans to send the animal scurrying back to its perch.

A resident who identified himself as Larry told KGO that he received a telephone call from his wife, telling him the animal was in one of their trees.
“I was working downtown (and) my wife phoned me, oh, about 4:30, and said, ‘There’s supposed to be a bear in one of our trees,’” Larry told the television station. “Our backyard is filled with police and firemen.
“And I said, ‘Are you kidding? A bear in San Anselmo?’ We don’t even see a deer walk down the street, much less a bear,” Larry told ABC7 News. “And she said, ‘No, it’s a bear.’”

Capt. Patrick Foy of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife told the Chronicle that bears in Marin County were “not common.”
“Every single day, somewhere in California, a bear is wandering into a populated area,” Foy told the newspaper. “San Anselmo? Not so much. But do bears exist in Marin County? Yes, they do.”
The bear eventually left the tree and ran away from the house and up a nearby hill, KGO reported.
“It’s on its way home,” one officer told the television station.
ALL CLEAR: @centralmarinpa say the San Anselmo bear is now way up the hill and in open space. “It’s on its way home,” an officer says.
