50-car train derails in southern Minnesota

ALBERT LEA, Minn. — No one was injured when a 50-car Union Pacific train derailed in southern Minnesota on Saturday, authorities said.

According to the Albert Lea Police Department, the train derailed at about 1:34 p.m. CDT, KSTP-TV reported. A Union Pacific spokesperson said 28 cars went off the track, the television station reported.

Police said there was an unknown hazardous material leak from the train, WCCO reported. Area residents were advised to shelter in place, the television station reported.

Officials with the police department said there are no airborne hazardous materials, KARE reported. Officials with Rochester HAZMAT were at the site to assist with containing any leaks, the television station reported.
