The incident, the second shooting to occur on campus this week, occurred during a homecoming event in the quad area of the campus, KSLA reported. The person who died was not a student, police said. One enrolled student who was wounded was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, the television station reported.

Homecoming events planned for Sunday were canceled, and classes scheduled for Monday were also postponed, the university said in a Facebook post.

Multiple shots were fired around 1:15 a.m. CDT, university spokesperson Tisha Arnold told CNN.

“At the time of the incident, a homecoming event was underway in McCall Dining Center,” Arnold told CNN in an email Sunday. “All persons present sheltered in place and were released once the all-clear was given by University Police.”

Arnold added that a suspect had not yet been identified, the news network reported.

The case is being investigated by the Louisiana State Patrol, according to WWL.

“Our campus community has worked tirelessly to keep our students and others safe for the homecoming activities,” Grambling State President Rick Gallot said in a statement. “Yet, with all of our planning and coordination with our local, parish, regional, and state law enforcement partners, we still find ourselves grieving the loss of life and injuries just as too many communities in our country have experienced as well. Why would someone come to the campus of our Dear Ole Grambling and shoot innocent people?”

On Wednesday, a Damarius Murphy, 19, of Rayville, was fatally shot on campus, KTVE reported. The shooting also injured a 16-year-old juvenile of Rayville, the television station reported.

Jatavious Carroll, aka “Rabbit,” 18 of Delhi, is believed to be the suspect in the shooting, state police told KTVE.
