A woman was bitten by a shark Sunday afternoon at South Cocoa Beach, according to Brevard Ocean Rescue officials.
The 28-year-old woman was wading in the surf when a shark bit her ankle, officials said.
Officials said the woman suffered a 6-inch laceration to her ankle. They said she was probably attacked by a 3- to 5-foot shark.

She was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center.

Visitor Holly Peterson was near the woman when the shark struck.

"I looked over at her and she said, 'Somebody help me.' I saw the fin come up and slap her in the face. She said, 'It got me.' So I grabbed her hand and dragged her back to the shore," said Peterson.
