How long would you wait to tell someone you found $350?

For Michael Walsh, a former Walmart employee of 18 years, in Niskayuna, New York, waiting 30 minutes cost him his job

According to Times Union, Walsh found the money on the job in the store's parking lot in November. He was headed to turn it in when he heard a woman complaining to a manager about losing the money.

Because he has some anxiety and didn't want to escalate the situation, Walsh tended to other matters before turning the money in a half hour later.

Two days later, on Nov. 6, he was fired for "gross misconduct." The store manager said she couldn't discuss the move, while a company spokesman said he had "no comment."

"I enjoyed my job, I was a good employee and always got to work on time," Walsh said. "I got treated like a common criminal."

On the same day at another location, Thomas Smith was fired for redeeming $2 worth of cans and bottles left behind by a customer at his Walmart store, the Times Union says. He has since received a new job with better pay ($12/hour), according to Times Union.

Walsh's firing came during the 20 percent holiday discount, and he was only two years away from his 10 percent lifetime discount had he remained a 20-year employee. It was his only job, and his wife is disabled, the report says.
