- A passenger on a flight from Honolulu to Japan became disruptive and violent within an hour and a half into the nine-hour trip.

Hyongtae Pae refused to listen to flight attendants when they told him to stay into his seat, CNN reported.

He yelled at them in Korean and became violent during the meal service, a criminal complaint filed in federal court claims.

Why didn't he want to remain seated when other passengers were getting their food?

Because, he said, according to the FBI, that he wanted to do yoga and meditate. He also told investigators that he had not slept in 11 days, CNN reported.

At one point, after being offered a space to calm down, he continued to yell and refused to sit in his assigned seat.

Five Marines, along with other passengers, were asked to help restrain Pae and take him to his seat.

The complaint said he tried to head-butt and bite one Marine and threatened to kill others trying to put him in restraints.

Pae and his wife, through an interpreter, said they knew they needed to follow the directives of the flight crew, but didn't know it was illegal to disobey.

Pae has been charged with interference with the performance of a flight crew.
