Australian wildlife officials are pushing for countrywide laws requiring pet owners to keep all cats inside, all the time, as part of the effort to protect native animals.
The government released a feral cat plan this month, with the goal of destroying 2 million feral cats.
The plan to destroy feral cats also lobbies for local ordinances aimed at controlling domestic cats.
Proponents of cat control say the felines kill native wildlife and breed with ferals, which is especially a problem in areas identified as “conservation areas of significance.”
