Music City Minute: CMT Music Awards Recap!

Last night was a big night for country music! The CMT Awards went down and Blake Shelton was the big winner! He took home two awards for Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year for “I’ll Name the Dogs”.

Carrie Underwood feat. Ludacris - "The Champion" won “Female Video of the Year” she set a new record last night, that was her 18th CMT award.

Lauren Alaina and Kane Brown won Collaborative Video of the Year for “What Ifs” that was Kane’s first CMT Award trophy.

There were so many great moments from the show but one of my favorites was when Carly Pearce won “Breakthrough Video of the Year” for “Every Little Thing” she got up on stage to accept the award and started bawling. And she ended her acceptance speech perfectly by saying, "To the guy that broke my heart. Thank you." Obviously he inspired the song.

And finally the Backstreet Boys won an award with Florida Georgia Line for “CMT Performance of the Year” from the CMT Crossroads show, and it seemed that half of the viewers were angry tweeting, one said, "My 8-year-old mind can’t comprehend how the Backstreet Boys just won a country music award.”

Another viewer tweeted, "So this Backstreet Boys thing... we’re just deciding they’re country now? Is that what’s happening?"

And then a girl after my own heart named Ellen Bass chimed in and said, "YASSSS BACKSTREET BOYS AND FGL!! #CMTawards"

Other winners last night were:

Duo Video of the Year Dan + Shay - "Tequila"

Group Video of the Year, Little Big Town - "When Someone Stops Loving You"
