Music City Minute: Billboard Music Awards, Jason Aldean, TV Tonight!

A lot of our favorite country stars made an appearance at last night's "Billboard Music Awards". They include Brett Young with his fiancée Taylor Mills, Luke Combs and his girlfriend Nicole Hocking, plus Maren Morris, Kelly Clarkson, Walmart yodeling kid Mason Ramsey, and Taylor Swift. You can check out the photos of everyone looking snazzy here. Plus a performance everyone is talking about from Maren Morris when she sang "The Middle".

Now there's another situation where someone is claiming country artist stole their song. A Canadian musician is accusing the songwriters behind Jason Aldean's "You Make It Easy" of plagiarizing a song he wrote called "Easy". His name is Connor Shaw.

He wrote it for a music class back in 2015… and then recorded a rough version that he posted online. A family friend in Nashville liked it and asked him to send a demo and she "would send it around." He sent it last fall but didn't hear anything.

And then in February he heard "You Make It Easy", which was written by Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, plus Morgan Wallen and Jordan Schmidt.

He felt ripped off and posted clips of both songs. People agreed with him, including an entertainment lawyer who said he'd "never heard two songs sound so similar." He had the lawyer send a cease-and-desist order to Florida Georgia Line's attorney.

Well, the response from FGL's lawyer made it clear they'd have a fight on their hands if they planned to continue. A fight that would cost a whole lot of money.

If you're interested, Connor Shaw posted a thread on Twitter that documents the whole saga. It includes a side-by-side audio comparison plus lyrical similarities.

And tonight on TV there's a lot going on! The 16th season finale of "American Idol" at 8:00 p.m. on ABC. The three finalists are Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, and Maddie Poppe. Last night they each sang three songs, and if you missed it, here's a song from each of them to hold you over until tonight!

"The Voice" at 7:00 p.m. on NBC. Part 1 of the live finale. The final four are Brynn Cartelli, Kyla Jade, Britton Buchanan, and Spensha Baker. The winner is crowned tomorrow night.

"Miss USA" at 7:00 p.m. on Fox. Nick Lachey and his wife Vanessa host the two-hour competition. The best might part might be that Lee Brice is performing and so is 98 Degrees.
