Wimberley’s 75th Annual VFW CPRA Rodeo
Cowboys Professional Rodeo Assn. Sanctioned Pro/Open Rodeo July 4th weekend, 2021 Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A Texas Hill Country tradition, the Annual CPRA Sanctioned/Open VFW Rodeo has been held for 74 years on the first weekend in July at the VFW’s rodeo grounds, Chester Franklin Arena, north of Wimberley on Jacobs Well Rd., just off Ranch Road 12. Once the largest outdoor rodeo in Texas, the event still ranks near the top. This is a Cowboys Professional Rodeo Assn. (CPRA) sanctioned/open event (Ranked “Best CPRA Rodeo of the Year” in the 2006 CPRA Hall of Fame).

Where to watch Fourth of July fireworks in San Antonio and surrounding suburbs
The City of San Antonio
The San Antonio Parks official Fourth of July Celebration for San Antonio will take place this year at Woodlawn Lake Park. The day include host food trucks, a carnival, and activities for children during the event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The fireworks display will take place at 9 p.m.
Helotes
The City of Helotes and Helotes Festival Association are hosting the 2021 event on Saturday, July 3, at the Helotes Festival Grounds (located at 12210 Leslie Road). Alamo Heights
In 2020, Alamo Heights canceled its 51st annual Hall and Pat Hammond July 4th Parade due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the parade will return on Saturday, July 3. It begins at 10 a.m. at Estes & Patterson and will end at Cathedral Park. For more information, visit alamoheightstx.gov
SeaWorld San Antonio
In honor of Independence Day, SeaWorld San Antonio is hosting its annual firework show every night from July 2-4. It’s included with the park admission. For more information, visit seaworld.com.
Schertz
City officials continued on with its parade and firework show last year, however, the parade went through residential neighborhoods instead of downtown. The firework display was also launched at different areas in the city to ensure social distancing. According to its website, the firework show will go on at the Boerne City Park, located at 106 City Park Road, on the Fourth of July. Leon Valley

Fredericksburg

New Braunfels
It will be the largest professional pyrotechnic display ever seen in the skies over New Braunfels thanks to a generous donation from Joy and Rocky Hill, according to the city’s website. The show will start at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, visit nbtexas.org
Project Cool provides free box fans to San Antonio-area senior citizens
The project works to prevent heat-related illness and deaths during the hot summer months in South Texas.
The project, now in its 25th year, kicked off June 4 at Guadalupe Community Center. It’s going strong with organizations hosting fan drives and volunteers distributing fans to seniors. The coalition supporting Project Cool includes the City of San Antonio Human Services Department, the San Antonio Fire Department, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Catholic Charities. The average fan costs $22, which some seniors may not be able to afford. Donations of five or more 20″ box fans can be dropped off at St. Stephen’s CARE Center at 2127 S. Zarzamora Street between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Donations of fewer than five fans can be dropped off at any San Antonio Fire Department station, except Station 23 at the airport. Anyone interested in receiving a free boxed fan should call the United Way 2-1-1 Help Line to find a convenient site for pickup.

Health officials said there is not enough blood on hand to treat trauma cases and patients who need emergency surgeries and procedures. The facilities are open during daylight hours.
