In 2016, the now bride-to-be wrote about her New Year’s resolutions on her blog. Among them are two that she said she has to make “every single year”: “Stop biting my nails. Stop swearing.”
“The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple drinks,” she wrote at the time. “And when it comes to the biting of the nails – well, it still happens with a turbulent flight or a stressful day. It’s unladylike. But then again, so is the swearing."
With plans to marry Prince Harry, it looks like Markle might actually have to follow through with those resolutions this year. In fact, she’s taking royal etiquette lessons in preparation — with instruction from her fiance, Prince Harry himself.
Part of her training will include the politics of curtsying. The actress and bride-to-be will reportedly be expected to curtsy to the queen, her soon-to-be sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Anne, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice (though, if Harry is not in the room, they will be expected to curtsy to her). In addition, she will have to learn how to handle herself at a state dinner, how to properly address dignitaries and royal table etiquette — and we have a feeling nail-biting and swearing won’t be looked upon too kindly in such scenarios.
Markle and the prince are set to tie the knot this May. They announced their engagement at the end of last month.
“The marriage of His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will take place at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in May 2018,” Kensington Palace announced. “Her Majesty The Queen has granted permission for the wedding to take place at the Chapel.”

Since the announcement of Prince Harry’s wedding, many have speculated about the guest list. In fact, several are wondering whether the Obamas will receive an invite, a question the soon-to-be groom dodged in a recent interview.
During a segment on BBC Radio 4, a reporter asked him if former U.S. President Barack Obama would receive a special note in the mail, but Prince Harry said he didn’t want to “ruin that surprise.”
“We haven’t put the invites or the guest list together yet so who knows whether he's going to be invited or not. I wouldn’t want to ruin that surprise,” he said.
Reports say the British government is concerned about how current President Donald Trump would react if the Obamas attend, amid a shaky relationship between the U.S. and the U.K.
“Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it’s causing a lot of nervousness,” The Sun reported, citing an unamed senior government official. “Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the queen.”
Although the royal family and U.K. politicians have become close acquaintances of the Obamas in recent years, rallying together for the Invictus Games and appearing together in public several times, their encounters with Trump have not been as friendly.
In November, British Prime Minister Theresa May was critical of Trump’s decision to retweet a string of inflammatory videos from a British political fringe group that purport to show violence being committed by Muslims. May’s office said it was “wrong” for the president to have done shared the videos.
The prince’s fiancee, actress and humaniatarian Meghan Markle, has also called out Trump in the past.
But Prince Harry and Markle don’t have the sole say on the invites. The British Parliament will aid the couple.
“Conversations are ongoing about and ministers will eventually have to decide,” The Sun reported. “If the PM lays down the law, Harry will just have to suck it up.”
The nuptials are set for May 19 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in London.
Samantha Markle is responding to claims that Prince Harry made following his first Christmas with the royal family and his new fiancee Meghan Markle.
After the holidays, Harry sat down for an interview with BBC 4 radio show “Today.” Harry told the hosts that his fiancee had a “fantastic” time celebrating with his family.
“The family loved having her there. I think together, we had an amazing time,” he said. ““She’s done an absolutely amazing job. She’s getting in there, and it’s the family that I suppose she’s never had.”
After the interview, Markle’s half-sister took to Twitter to slam the comments made by Harry.
“She has a large family. She always did. Our dad is amazing and completely self sacrificing. We made it so that she had two houses. How fun it was!” she wrote.
Samantha continued, “Excited for my book coming out and wait until you see what our home life was like!”
Samantha previously claimed she was going to write a tell-all about her sister with a working title of “The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister.” In the book, she claimed that her sister was a “shallow social climber” and “had a soft spot for gingers.”
She later shot down rumors that she was writing the tell-all after her sister’s engagement made headlines in November. Following the big engagement news, Samantha did an interview with Piers Morgan on “Good Morning Britain” and denied rumors of estrangement in the family.
“The reality is that most of that was a media construct,” she said at the time. “We are very normal and moving forward, we’re going into the holidays and this is a joyous occasion so I think that any sort of misconception that was out there … we have to let bygones be bygones and just be really happy moving forward.”
She continued, “All of that is just silly and we really want her to be happy.”
Having impressed producers with her work as Rachel Zane on “Suits,” they were eyeing Markle for a role they wanted played by a glamorous actress who could become one of Daniel Craig’s love interests in the upcoming “Bond 25,” which is set for release in 2019. However, the actress’ budding relationship with Prince Harry is apparently what put an end to her chances, as producers thought she would be unable to continue acting should things get series.
“Meghan fits the role of a Bond girl perfectly. She’s glamorous and sexy and a good actress,” a source said. “The role more recently has gone to actresses deemed to be rising stars, and Meghan certainly was seen as that before her relationship with Harry became public.”
According to the source, Markle had made the cut on a short list of five actresses for the part, but once it was announced that she was dating Prince Harry, the list went down to four.
“Her engagement effectively spelt an end to her acting career too so that was the final blow,” the source bluntly added.
While bookies were just offering odds that she would become a Bond girl earlier this year, it seems Markle’s acting career may truly be over. Prior to her engagement, “Suits” confirmed that Markle would be leaving the series after seven years, and Kensington Palace confirmed she would no longer continue her charity work with the Untied Nations, World Vision Canada and One Young World once the news was announced.
During her first interview with Prince Harry following the announcement of their engagement, she was asked how she felt about having to give up so much in order to join the British Royal Family.
“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she responded.
“He dedicated the majority of all his time and everything to her,” Thomas Markle Jr. told the Daily Mail of his dad’s relationship with the “Suits” star. “He made sure she had what she needed to be successful and get to where she’s at today.”
He said his father was “extremely hurt” following Prince Harry’s interview in which he spoke about what it was like having Markle spend Christmas with the royal family.
“The family loved having her there. I think together, we had an amazing time,” the prince said at the time. “She’s done an absolutely amazing job. She’s getting in there, and it’s the family that I suppose she’s never had.”
“She’s had a really good family. We were as close as we could be, as tight as we could be, that’s what we were. We’d get together on Christmases, on holidays, on birthdays, on Thanksgivings. It was always somewhere, even though we lived in different parts of [Los Angeles], we still all got together,” Markle Jr. continued. “Obviously, she had a family. She was very privileged. She got everything she ever wanted. We did the best that we could in terms of getting together for holidays and whatnot.”
The reaction follows comments from the actress’s half-sister, Samantha, who slammed Prince Harry on Twitter earlier this week, saying “She has a large family. She always did. Our dad is amazing and completely self sacrificing. We made it so that she had two houses. How fun it was!”
“I don’t know if she gets to invite who she wants. But she’ll reach out if she wants me there, she’ll call me,” Markle’s half-brother said of the upcoming royal wedding in May. “She knows where to find me. But that’s up to her, there’s no pressure. I wouldn’t mind seeing my little sister have the biggest wedding in the world. That would be incredible. … If my dad doesn’t walk her down the aisle, then I will.”
