Music City Minute: Chris Young, Kane Brown, and Lauren Alaina

Music City Minute: Chris Young, Kane Brown, and Lauren Alaina

Chris Young fans have reason to get excited! The “Hangin’ On” singer says he’s been hard at work in the studio working on his next project. Chris posted a photo from the studio earlier this month, captioning it, “One of my favorite views in the world! #studio #countrymusic” and then shared a post yesterday with his dog, Porter in the studio “helping” Chris write!

In an interview with the Boot, Chris promises, “It’ll be sooner than you think!” You think Porter will get any song credits??

Speaking of new music – Kane Brown released his new song last night, “Good As You” which is being accompanied by a music video today! For the music video, Kane used footage from his wedding even tweeting, “Shot my whole wedding for a music video!!!!”.

Kane’s new album, Experiment releases on November 9th.

We’re praying for one of this year’s 8 Man Jam performers, Lauren Alaina. The “Doin’ Fine” singer posted to Instagram last night that she will NOT be performing any shows this weekend including her show at Whitewater Amphitheater due to a family medical emergency. Back in June, Alaina announced her stepfather is battling Stage 4 cancer writing, “Please keep us in your prayers. Treatment is going well. We just hit a speed bump in the road. Treatment will continue this week as planned. Thanks everyone for all the prayers and donations. Our family is so grateful.”

All of us at Y100 will be praying for Lauren and her entire family through this difficult time.

The honorees included Maren Morris, Carrie Underwood, Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, and Hilary Scott of Lady Antebellum. There were several cool moments including a performance of Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel) Natural Woman” from Maren Morris and Brandi Carlile that paid tribute to the Queen of Soul.

When honoree Miranda Lambert took the stage, she vowed to always lift up other women while encouraging others to do the same with a message that embodies CMT’s message behind the evening.

Music City Minute: Jason Aldean and Tim McGraw!

Baby Memphis is on the move! Jason Aldean’s wife Britney shared a cute video yesterday of their 10-month-old son, Memphis taking his first steps! In the video, you can see Baby Memphis bravely let go of furniture as he walks towards a stuffed animal.

“He’s getting so big, I can’t take it!!!” Britney says. The Aldeans announced in July that they were expecting a baby girl so along with Baby Memphis, you can be sure we’ll get to be a part of more baby milestones in the future!

Tim McGraw and his active lifestyle are well documented but it looks like the ‘Neon Church’ singer may have taken it too far! Yesterday, Tim shared a photo to his social media accounts that he is in a boot as a result of two stress fractures. McGraw captioned the photo, “Too much spearfishing and beach volleyball...”

It’s not fully known yet how long it will take Tim to recover but he did just release his new single, ‘Neon Church’ with a new album expected to drop in 2019.

Music City Minute: Brett Eldredge & Kane Brown

Brett Eldredge saw a sign during a show on the last leg of his The Long Way Tour that he says changed his life. Brett was singing his new single “Love Someone” when he noticed a fan holding a sign that said, “Kickn’ Cancers Ass… & Tonight I’m Fallin’ In <3 To The Beat Of The Music.” It was at that moment Brett pulled the fan, Samantha up on stage. Brett serenaded the young girl as she shed some tears, jumped in excitement, and Brett even embraced her with a hug!

Brett shared the moment on his Instagram posting the caption, “Samantha...you changed my life tonight with your heart and your smile...I cannot thank you enough for showing us all how to live! One things for sure, you are KICKING CANCERS ASS and I love you!”

So yesterday we shared the news about Kane Brown’s wedding over the weekend, and now Kane is celebrating that moment with a new tattoo! Kane’s new ink is of his wife’s name, “Katelyn” in cursive below his right thumb. Kane shared the new addition to his Instagram story and you can check it out below!

Kane will be one of this year’s performers at the Y100 Bud Light 8 Man Jam happening November 28th at the Majestic Theater!

Music City Minute: Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini, Morgan Evans

It’s official! Y100 Bud Light 8 Man Jam Artist Kane Brown will be sporting a new ring when he comes to the Majestic Theater on Nov. 28th! Kane married his longtime girlfriend, Katelyn Jae, Friday evening in a ceremony outside of Nashville.

According to a source, Kane and Katelyn shared the moment with about 200 friends and family. Kane will be releasing his second album, Experiment, on November 9 before he will take the stage at the Y100 Bud Light 8 Man Jam November 28th!

With the city of Nashville home to so many musicians and songwriters, you’re bound to spot artists taking an edge off around town from time to time. Locals were hanging out at a bar enjoying drinks and karaoke night when a giggly group of friends took the stage. The friends turned out to be Morgan Evans, Kelsea Ballerini, and Ed Sheeran! Twitter user, @libbytubbergen pulled out her phone to capture the group arm in arm, singing Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way”.

The group was likely out celebrating Morgan Evans who released his new album, ‘The Things We Drink To’.

And JUST announced this morning, Lauren Alaina will be joining the Y100 Bud Light 8 Man Jam on Nov. 28th at the Majestic Theater! She’ll be joined by already announced artists, Jerrod Niemann, Kane Brown, Jon Pardi, Aaron Watson, and David Lee Murphy! Music City Minute: Zac Brown + Shawn Mendes, Thomas Rhett, Morgan Evans, 8 Man Jam!

The Zac Brown Band and Shawn Mendes episode of "CMT Crossroads" will debut October 24th… and they're offering a preview to get you interested. It's a video of them performing ZBB's "Keep Me In Mind". Here’s a clip of it, and it’s amazing, the harmonies are great!

Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren, celebrate their sixth anniversary today, Thomas looks back on their relationship over the years:Thomas Rhett: "It's been kind of an ever evolving thing 'cause we've know each other for so long. We've known each other since like fifth grade. So, we kinda got to grow up with each other and watch each other make terrible decisions and make good decisions. And watch each other date other people, and then ultimately get back together, you know, after college and get married. So, at the end of the day, you gotta enjoy hanging out with that person. You know, looks definitely do fade. [I'm] not saying her looks fade, but that comment is definitely true."

Kelsea Ballerini’s hubby Morgan Evans released his first stateside full-length album today, called “Things That We Drink To” and each of the 11 songs Morgan had a part in writing.

Morgan says: “My album is a collection of songs that I wrote over the last two years, it’s my story. It’s leaving behind everything and everyone you know to chase down a country music dream on the other side of the world. It’s the excitement of the unknown, it’s the fun, it’s the loneliness and it’s the struggle. It’s losing someone and finding the strength to keep your head up and make them proud. It’s meeting a girl, falling hopelessly and marrying the love of your life. It’s the Things That We Drink To.”

And this morning we announced out sixth artist for the Y100 Bud Light 8 Man Jam – David Lee Murphy! Win tickets starting Monday morning at 8:40, plus save the date for our ticket stops, they start on the 16th! The line up to date for the 8 Man Jam is Kane Brown, Aaron Watson, Jon Pardi, Jordan Davis, Jerrod Niemann, & of course David Lee!

George Strait fans you’re going to love this news! The King will return to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for two shows on February 1st and 2nd with special guest Ashley McBryde. Those dates might sound familiar because it’s Super Bowl weekend, and will mark George's 21st and 22nd "Strait to Vegas" concerts, which initially started in 2016..While George only played a handful of shows this year, he will close out 2018 with two concerts in Vegas on December 7th and 8th. Tickets for the shows in February will go on sale on October 19th at Noon.

Music City Minute: Michael Ray + Carly Pearce, Tim McGraw, Jon Pardi

Being on the road must be tough for our favorite country artists, you’re always on the go, living out of a suitcase, not getting to sleep in your own bed, and a lot of them talk about “road food”. Which is basically the food they get delivered to the venues they’re playing concerts at, or their tour bus… usually from catering companies or restaurants. I can imagine that gets a little mundane sometimes!

One thing Michael Ray and Carly Pearce have in common is that they both like to eat clean. And Michael says it’s actually the opposite of what you might think when it comes to how he eats when he’s touring:

Michael Ray: "Carly and I eat a lot alike, so it's very bland. She likes the bland chicken and the bland veggies and all that stuff. So, it keeps it easier to eat healthy at home as well 'cause a lot of times I feel like I'd eat healthier on the road and then come home and have little cheat days here and there. But she helps me stay on track 'cause she eats just as clean as I do. So, it keeps it easier when you're at home."

See that’s what couples do, hold each other accountable!

Tim McGraw was recently asked how he juggles his singing and acting careers. He said music always comes first and his eyes are always open for great songs to record.

Of course, movies are more complicated because it takes getting the right script and having the free time to do it. But even then, the producers may be doing their own juggling about who they want to play the part. A lot of things have to go right.

Tim says one time he was asked what he'd do if he was offered an acting roll but had to gain 35 pounds. As we know, Tim’s obsessed with fitness so that presented a bit of a problem.

He said, "I don't think I could. It would have to be something that I could NOT say no to. In fact, a few years ago I got offered to play Elvis in the '70s, and I had to gain about 30 pounds to do it, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it."

All week we’ve been announcing artists for this year’s Y100 Bud Light 8 Man Jam! Monday was Kane Brown, yesterday was Aaron Watson, and today we announced Jon Pardi will be at The Majestic Theatre November 28th!

The only way in to see 8 of our favorite country artists play acoustically is to win tickets, the show is free! We will start giving them away on the radio on Monday, and our ticket stops where you can register to win tickets start next Tuesday the 16th at The Sandbox off UTSA from 12p-2p. You can get the full list of all the ticket stops here

Music City Minute: The Voice, Luke Combs, Old Dominion

The Voice’s Season 15 Blind Auditions continued last night allowing coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton to further build their teams for the upcoming weeks.

A particularly interesting standout was 22-year-old Kirk Jay who grew up on limited means in Alabama, living in a trailer with very few amenities. He blasted out a soulful version of Rascal Flatts' 2004 hit "Bless the Broken Road," which had first Blake, then Adam, and then Kelly and Jennifer at the last minute swiveling their chairs.

With all that, it's not too surprising that Jay went for the obvious. Can you guess? Of course, Team Blake.

Luke Combs has been getting compared to Chris Stapleton, which is fine by him. He says it's "awesome" to be put in the same category because Chris is a "super-stallion."

Every new performer gets compared to a more famous artist at some point. For Luke Combs, it's Chris Stapleton, and that's a pretty tall order. But there are reasons… besides both of them being big, burly dudes with beards.

Luke's "This One's for You" is the fastest-selling debut album to go Platinum since Chris's "Traveller". Plus, they're both up for Top Male Vocalist at the CMAs.

Luke talked about it in an interview, and he was happy for the comparison. He says, "It means a lot. It's obviously awesome to be put in that category with him. He's a super-stallion himself, a great singer and obviously exploded on the scene."

The next question is will Luke have the same kind of staying power. I'm going with yes, because he's still working his tail off. He says, "I've recorded a lot of songs. I've recorded a ton of songs in January. I'm hoping to record a lot more this January.

"So the sophomore album could be two albums. There's enough songs for that, enough material for sure. Now it's kind of waiting to be able to release it."

It wasn’t that long ago the guys of Old Dominion were here performing in Austin! The guys released a new song called “Make It Sweet” and it’s exactly what you would think, a sweet song about love! You can check out the entire song and video below.

Music City Minute: Zac Brown, Taylor Swift, Maren Morris, Sugarland, Carrie Underwood

Zac Brown and his wife, Shelly, are splitting up after 12 years of marriage. In a joint statement released to People Friday, the two said, "We feel blessed to be on such an incredible journey in life and sometimes the journey begins to lead in different directions. It is with deep love and respect that we announce we are separating as a couple."The statement went on to say, "We have led a whirlwind life together growing into a beautiful family with five amazing children and while life will be rearranging a bit, our love and commitment to our family will always be there." The statement then concluded with a message for others, saying, "We would like to ask that rather than commenting or spending any energy towards this, that you take this moment to send love to your family, in honor of ours."

Taylor Swift was busy over the weekend she played two shows in Dallas, Friday night she brought out Maren Morris they sang Maren’s song "The Middle".

Then on Saturday Taylor brought Sugarland out to perform their song "Babe". It was the first time Taylor sang it in public!

Carrie Underwood posted a selfie on Friday of the clearest view I've seen of her scar from last year's fall. She took the pic while filming her "Love Wins" video, so there's a lot of colorful face makeup from the shoot… although most of it is around her eyes and forehead.

Music City Minute: Tim McGraw, Brett Eldredge, Maren Morris

Earlier this week we told you about Tim McGraw doing some mysterious things on social media. First he tweeted "I need Jesus or I need whiskey". Then he revealed via text message that a second song, "Thought About You," would be released yesterday. Well of course Tim followed through!

Yesterday Tim released a new single “Neon Church”, it’s the first solo music since he released his last album, Damn Country Music, in 2015. The tweet “I need Jesus or I need whiskey” is actually the first line of the song.

Tim McGraw also released a bonus song yesterday called "Thought About You". It'll be on the new album sometime next year too.

Nowadays it seems like celebrities and musicians are sharing their struggles with the public more than ever to try and bring awareness and comfort to those going through the same thing. One of the most recently stars to share their struggle is actually Brett Eldredge. He recently talked about his struggles with anxiety. And if that surprises you, well, that's exactly why he's putting it out there. He says everyone has "stuff going on" and he wants to bring that into the light.

Brett says, "I think it's a very human thing. It's kind of always had a weird stigma about the mental health world and it's so dumb to me. It's so ridiculous. We're all just human, trying to get through this, and we can really help each other out.

"Just realize that we're all here and just trying to figure out how to deal with it. There are definitely ways. It doesn't mean that you're ever going to be perfect at it but there are ways to better yourself and power through."

One of the things he uses is a "gratitude journal." He writes down the good things happening in his life, and goes back to it when he needs to. He says, "It's been a very therapeutic experience and it feels good."

It looks like Maren Morris has finished recording her second album… because she played it for some big shots yesterday. She wrote about it on Twitter, saying, "When you're playing your label album #2 today." The post included a GIF from Beyoncé's "Hold Up" video.

Music City Minute: Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton

Have you ever wondered how songwriters keep coming up with new stuff? Well, they wonder about that too… and sometimes they freak out a little. It's a concern Thomas Rhett shared during a recent interview.

He said, "Every time I finish a record in my brain I go, I have nothing else to say. How in the world are we gonna write for another record?"

He overcomes that by tapping into whatever's in his brain at that moment in time. He said, "It's funny how the moment you start writing [again] you realize there are a million things you haven't said about your life or about past experiences."

He says his last album, "Life Changes", happened while he and his wife were "in the thick of the process" of becoming parents… so the music reflected that. Now he's working on the follow-up, and you can guess where that's going.

Thomas said, "And now we're in the thick of the actual happening of being parents, and so there's a lot of cool, different inspiration that we pulled from that." No word when the next album will be out.

You know I’m all about positivity, so of course I love that Carrie Underwood recorded a PSA for Disney's "Choose Kindness" campaign. She asks us all to "stop the hate and spread some love." You'll also notice her song "Love Wins" playing in the background.

Blake Shelton wants people to know that he is a lucky man. His girlfriend Gwen Stefani turned 49 yesterday and the country singer sent out a very public, very eye-catching tweet.

Oh my! Blake sure doesn’t hold back! Happy Birthday Gwen!

Music City Minute: Brad Paisley, Kane Brown, Aaron Watson

Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly are working with Belmont University to open a "modern food pantry" in Nashville. They're calling it The Store, and it'll have fresh and nonperishable groceries for people in need.

This is a new kind of food bank. It's designed to look and work like a free grocery store. They got the idea after volunteering with their sons at a similar place in Santa Barbara, California.

Brad says, "This is a store with dignity for people who've fallen on hard times. All of us are one unforeseen disaster away from rock bottom. It's nice to think about a place where when that happens, someone can use it to get back on their feet."

The Store plans to offer on-the-job training… and other services like medical and legal assistance.

Brad and Kimberly are donating an "initial gift" to kick things off, but more money is needed so they've introduced a "Brick By Brick Campaign." You can get involved by hitting up TheStore.org. They're hoping to break ground next year.

Kane Brown brought two adorable little boys on stage during a recent show in Philadelphia to help him sing "Heaven". They were shy at first, but once they got going they knew all the words… and stole the show.

Aaron Watson enlisted the help of wife Kimberly and their three kids--Jake, Jack and Jolee Kate--for his new holiday album, "An Aaron Watson Family Christmas," which comes out Friday. The 10-song album features eight holiday classics and two originals, with family members contributing vocals on six tracks.

"An Aaron Watson Family Christmas" Track List"Lonely Lonestar Christmas""Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" (feat. Kimberly Watson, Jake Watson, Jack Watson & Jolee Kate Watson)"She Stared At Him All Night""Christmas Time Is Here" (feat. Jolee Kate Watson & Jack Watson)"Baby It's Cold Outside" (feat. Kimberly Watson)"The Christmas Waltz""Jingle Bells" (feat. Kimberly Watson)"Silent Night""Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" (feat. Jake Watson)"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" (Watson Family Greeting)

Music City Minute: The Voice, Tim McGraw

The Voice Blind Auditions continued last night and things started to heat up between the judges. Kelly Clarkson was very vocal about how she wanted a country female on her team, but it seemed like Blake was always stealing them from her.

One of those arguments began with 19-year-old Rachel Messer, she sang the most country version ever of LeeAnn Rimes “I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart” and pretty much melted everyone’s hearts.

Of course, her yodeling in the song was on point too!

Another fight began over 16-year-old Chevel Shepard, in her story she talked about how she was 4’10 and a firecracker who works on cars with her Dad. She belted out The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young” and got three chair turns including Blake and Kelly. Blake then tried to sell her on picking him and found out they had the same birthday! He surely thought he had it in the bag, and then Kelly Clarkson had some convincing words, and she went with her.

Yesterday we told you about Tim McGraw’s tweet that concerned some fans that said, "I Need Jesus Or I Need Whiskey”.

Then yesterday he put up a phone number and captioned it, "I'll text you back." The number was: 615-205-5687.

Of course, that's not his personal number, it's part of an automated service. But if you call the number, it says the mailbox is full, but then you get an automated response.

The message says, "Hey it's Tim, this is an autotext to let you know I got your text, everything else will be coming directly from me or my team. I've got some pretty cool things happening this week, so make sure you add yourself to my phone to stay in touch."

No word yet on what he's promoting, but I think most fans have assumed it has something to do with new music.

Zac Brown Band will take part in the star-studded celebration of Mickey Mouse's 90th birthday during an upcoming television special, "Mickey's 90th Spectacular."The TV special will be taped October 6th and will air on ABC on November 4th. The two-hour event will also feature performances by Meghan Trainor, Leslie Odom Jr., Josh Groban and NCT 127. Kristen Bell, Sofia Carson, Tony Hale and Sarah Hyland will also make appearances. Additional performers and guests will be announced soon.ZBB will perform "Bare Necessities" from Disney's 1967 film "The Jungle Book."Mickey made his first appearance on Nov. 18, 1928, in the short film, "Steamboat Willie.""Mickey's 90th Spectacular" airs November 4th at 7 p.m. on ABC.

Music City Minute: Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Route 91

Rascal Flatts is at a turning point in their career. They're not retiring... but they are changing the way they record music. Instead of going into the studio and grinding out full albums, they're recording one song at a time.

Joe Don Rooney says, "We're going single-by-song. So a singles-based model might be the new [thing] for us for some time in the future."

Sadly today is the one-year anniversary of the Route 91 tragedy, and all radio stations will observe a "moment of silence" today at 12:05 for 58 seconds to honor the 58 lives that were lost.

Everyone connected to Country music is encouraged to spread the word and participate. #CountryStrong #VEGASStrong

Tim McGraw sent out a Tweet that got the Internet thinking something bad was happening. He wrote, "I need Jesus or I need whiskey." While some fans were freaking out... others are saying it's probably the title of a new song.

And don't forget The Voice continues tonight at 7pm it's Part 3 of the Blind Auditions!

Music City Minute: Kip Moore, Pistol Annies, Lee Brice

One of the best parts about social media is seeing what our favorite country stars are up to. They often post videos of fans, or just of them doing regular people things.

But Kip Moore might be a little different. He’s kind of known for keeping it real so it doesn’t surprise me that he’s very adamant about making sure we know he doesn’t just post things online just to get publicity. It has to be real, and he hates it when other artists try to be someone they're not.

Kip says, "I see people doing a lot of things on social media that are not really in their character but they're trying so hard to be like, 'Look at me.' I don’t think that equates to a real fanbase.”

"If I take a morning selfie with my shirt off and I show my physique and do this sexy face to the camera, am I going to gain more followers? Yeah, maybe I'll get some teenybopper followers, but I don't think that equates to anything real and tangible.

"If you're going to gain people that way, I think you essentially cheapen it in the long run."

Now, while we wouldn’t mind a shirtless photo of Kip, I commend him for not being basic. He shared his thoughts in a podcast with an ESPN reporter named Marty Smith.

After a few years of being absent from the country music scene the Pistol Annies are back! You might remember Miranda Lambert created the group along with her friends Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley back in 2011. Well they are finally putting out new music! They announced the title, track listing, and release date of their new album. It's called "Interstate Gospel", and it's out November 2nd.

They released three new tracks from album, "Best Years of My Life""Got My Name Changed Back"… and the title track, "Interstate Gospel". You can listen to them by hitting up PistolAnnies.com.

Be on the lookout for their girl power album November 2nd!

And don’t forget to listen all weekend to win your tickets to see Lee Brice at Margarita Pour Off October 6th! Get the keyword to text in and win starting tomorrow at 11:10!

Music City Minute: Thomas Rhett, Kelsea Ballerini, FGL, Jason Aldean, Old Dominion

A little fun family rivalry goes on at the Rhett house! Thomas Rhett is a University of Georgia fan, but his wife Lauren is a University of Tennessee fan. Here's how they manage. Thomas says, "It's pretty cordial. If Tennessee's playing anybody but Georgia, I pull for Tennessee… and if Georgia's playing anybody but Tennessee, Lauren will pull for Georgia.

"But we don't watch the Georgia-Tennessee game together. It is not good for anybody that's around us. So we won't be together."

The Georgia-Tennessee game is this Saturday so they’ll be splitting up to watch the game.

Earlier this week we told you Kelsea Ballerini joined forces with The Chainsmokers to record the new single, "This Feeling," which was released on Sept. 18th.

The song is so fun and catchy and Kelsea looks adorable in their first performance of the song and their time on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show” yesterday. The song will be featured on the deluxe version of Kelsea's album, "Unapologetically" that’ll be out October 26th!

Country Extras:

The guys of Old Dominion are enjoying the success of their song "Hotel Key" but also recently teased on Twitter that their third studio album is in the works!

Bill Murray made his surprise debut on the Grand Ole Opry on Sept. 25 as he joined the SteelDrivers and John Prine onstage to sing "Paradise," a tune from John's 1971 self-titled debut album. The Opry shared a video and a couple of photos of the A-list ensemble via Twitter, saying, in part: "This is one #OpryMoment you just HAD to be there for."

Florida Georgia Line's next album will feature a big tempo duet with Jason Aldean!
