Chris Young surprised the crowd is Nashville Saturday night with a little appearance by Brad Paisley, they sang his song “I’m Still a Guy”. It was a big deal for Chris, it was his first night ever headlining in his home town, and he sold out Bridgestone Arena.
Of course we know Blake Shelton was here Friday night at Cowboys… and a lot of people were wondering if we were going to catch a glimpse of Gwen, well she may have been here! Gwen shared a special moment from Blake’s bus of him serenading her with his song “Turnin’ Me On”. She posted the video on her Instagram Saturday, but she very well could’ve taken it Friday and waited to post it Saturday so people didn’t know she was here.
And another video to check out is Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay falling on stage last Thursday while opening for Rascal Flatts. But he had a good sense of humor about it! He posted on Twitter, “Sacramento that was unreal. Please tell me someone got a video of me eating [crap] on the stage.” And of course the fans came through and there are videos with multiple angles of the fall!
And tonight on TV don’t forget The Voice is BACK! See Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and Jennifer Hudson take on the Blind Auditions at 7p!
Carrie Underwood got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday, and of course, pretty emotional in her induction speech.
She explained to the audience how crazy it is that a girl from Checotah, Oklahoma ended up where she was… and got about a sentence in before she started crying. (She starts talking at 49:36.)
One of the best parts were when she talked about how her parents would enter her in singing contests, and got her an old mixing board and giant speakers to practice.
She said, "They would always ask me, 'Did you practice?'" Which they knew I did, because we lived in a tiny house and they could hear me. But driving me to places, taking me to places, just being incredibly encouraging.”
Brad Paisley was there to salute Carrie and her family, and Simon Cowell talked about how she basically saved the show back in 2005, when it was faltering during Season 4. You can check out the entire ceremony on our Y100 Facebook page in the Music City Minute blog, couldn’t of happened to a sweeter person.
There have been a lot of viral moments at country concerts recently… stars interacting with fans, their phones, and such.
Keith Urban was playing a show in Winnipeg, Canada on Wednesday, and saw two fans holding a yellow neon sign that said they'd get the day off… if he mentioned the ORTHODONTIST they worked for.
Well, Keith was totally down. He invited them up on stage, and apparently, they'd made a bet with their boss… his name is Brent, from Kildonan Orthodontics.
Then Keith CALLED the guy, and asked him to give EVERYONE at the office a day off… and maybe even a raise… and they made a deal.
Then Keith posed with a sign that said "Visit Kildonan Ortho for your perfect smile!"
So… basically just a shameless promo for the guy's business. But you gotta give the guy props for creativity. And when's the last time YOUR favorite singer got you a day off?
And of course we have more wristbands for the Blake Shelton Pop Up Concert tonight at Cowboys all day at :40 after!
Dustin Lynch’s first performance as a bona fide member of the Grand Ole Opry was on Tuesday. And Reba McEntire was there to induct him 41 years and one day since she performed there for the first time.
Dustin had a great quote in his induction speech, when he dedicated it to the hundreds of people BEHIND the scenes who made his career happen.
He said, "There's a lot of guys and girls here that are responsible for getting our music heard, and getting our music played, and putting us in clothes, so we don't look like the idiots we are."
That's the kind of humility you only hear in country. How many rock stars would admit that if it was left up to them, they'd end up dressing themselves horribly.
And speaking of Reba, she promised that new music is coming soon.
Brad Paisley uploaded a funny Instagram video to prove to Carrie Underwood that he can "Cry Pretty" too. The caption says, "Can't cry pretty? We'll just see about that. I beg to differ." Then he has one of those filters on that makes him look like he's crying and smearing his makeup.
Billy Currington fans he’s back! He shared his new song called “Bring It On Over” and it’s the first single from Billy’s seventh studio album, but no release date has been announced yet. *
It seems like Luke Combs gets more famous by the day! This will be another reason why you love the guy, he’s super humble and has no ego. He loves hanging out with his family and says things haven’t changed a bit, "It's no different than when I went home five or six years ago. I visited my grandma [and] she still watches her soap opera every day at noon.
"I came in and she was like, 'Well, what do you want for dinner? Do you want Chinese food or burgers?' It was the same as when I was living there playing open mic nights. They treat me no differently."
He says it's actually good to go back and be just another family member at the Thanksgiving table. He says, "I try not to talk about music. If it comes up, fine, but most of the time we just hang out and around the new little cousins and stuff."
Last week we told you that Kelsea Ballerini was going to be on a song with The Chainsmokers, well it came out yesterday and people are already loving it! It’s called "This Feeling" and there’s a lyric video for it. It's animated and kind of has a Halloween look to it.
Carrie Underwood and her beautiful baby bump visited Disneyland on Sunday. She was with her hubby Mike Fisher and their son Isaiah. According to "Us Weekly" she obviously stuck to the "mellow" rides, like "It's a Small World"… and she posed for plenty of pics with fans and I just love that! She’s so sweet!
This is going to melt your heart and make you love Brett Eldredge EVEN more! So, by now you probably know his dog Edgar has become just as famous as he is, that’s why it’s only fitting that Edgar played the ‘love interest’ role the music video for his song “Love Someone”. It’s seriously one of the cutest things ever, from eating dinner together, to spinning around in a circle and laughing, to putting Edgar in the side car of a motorcycle… it’s going to be the best thing you see all day. There’s a really cute surprise at the end of the video too but I won’t ruin it for you, just have to check it out!
Blake Shelton is always a busy man, so why not add more to his plate!? He’s opening a new Ole Red restaurant and bar in Orlando, Florida!Blake and Ryman Hospitality Group have already opened Ole Red locations in Tishomingo, Okla., (September 2017) and Nashville (May 2018), with Ole Red Gatlinburg slated to open next spring. The $15 million dollar Ole Red Orlando project is expected to be approximately 15,000-square-feet over two levels and will seat approximately 500 guests. The venue will feature live music as well as indoor and outdoor private event areas and a view of ICON Orlando, one of the world's largest observation wheels.Blake said, “I think it's impossible to visit Orlando and not have a good time, and that's why I know Ole Red is going to fit right in."
And I thought this was really interesting… The Band Perry is back after a six-year hiatus… well, kinda? They’re releasing a new five-song EP called “Coordinates” on Friday but it’s NOT country. One magazine says it’s “unapologetically electronic” and Kimberly Perry says it was influenced by Kanye West and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails sooooo I’m not sure their former country fans will enjoy it, but we’ll have to wait and see on Friday! In the meantime you can check out the oddly cryptic video they’re teasing on their Instagram.
Carrie Underwood really opened up and let it all out during an interview on "CBS Sunday Morning". She revealed that she went through three miscarriages in the past two years.
She had two in 2017, and one earlier this year. But as we know, she didn't give up. She announced last month that she's pregnant again, and she's feeling good.
But the ups and downs of the past two years were tough to take for someone who admits she's had a pretty charmed life. "I'd planned that 2017 was going to be the year that I work on new music, and have a baby.
"We got pregnant early 2017, and it didn't work out. In the beginning, it was like, 'Okay, God, we know this is, just wasn't your timing. And that is all right. We will bounce back and figure our way through it.'"
But after two more miscarriages, she was thinking another baby was not in the cards. Carrie went on to say her thoughts were, “If we can never have any other kids, that's okay. I have this amazing life. What can I complain about? I can't.'"
And then the current pregnancy happened, and once again she was SURE she was having a miscarriage. She prayed about that, but with a different tone of voice.
Carrie prayed, "I was like, 'why on earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can't have a kid? Either shut the door or let me have a kid.' And for the first time, I actually told God how I felt.
"That was like a Saturday… and the Monday I went to the doctor to, like, confirm, another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great."
In lighter news Brett Eldredge brought an adorable little girl on stage to help him sing "Mean To Me" at his show on Saturday in Kansas City, Missouri. He posted a clip on Instagram and wrote, "She was crying and singing every word all night in the crowd… so I brought this sweet soul up on stage and she melted all of our hearts."
And Brett Young fans if you missed it, he released a new song on Friday called “Here Tonight” that he wrote with Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley. It’s upbeat, catchy, and the first song off his new album “Ticket to L.A.” that comes out December 7th!
Carrie Underwood was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night promoting her new album “Cry Pretty” that’s out today! She talked about the album of course, but the Jimmy asked her how her son Isaiah is doing and if she wants him to be a singer and she said, “If he’s not musically inclined that is fine, I’m excited to find out what he loves and is passionate about and is good at and I will support that, but I really want him to sing.”
And then they talked about Isaiah’s favorite cartoons to watch and Carrie said he really loves Duck Tales and then they actually sang the theme song together and it was awesome! Fast forward to the 3:20 mark below:
After introducing her Idyllwind clothing line during the 2017 holiday season, Miranda Lambert has launched the collection at Boot Barn!According to Boot Barn, the brand is "inspired by vintage and retro looks with a modern fashion edge and a focus on comfort, fit, and quality for the everyday girl who wants to look amazing and feel good at the same time."The Idyllwind line, includes apparel, accessories and cowboy boots and has so many cute pieces including ones with fringe! Miranda says, "Idyllwind is a true expression of my style, created for the everyday girl who is also a badass, it’s a brand based on being who you are and being comfortable in your skin and celebrating yourself whatever your size or age.” You can check out some of my favorite pieces below, and see the entire collection for yourself here.
And it's official: Kelsea Ballerini and The Chainsmokers are releasing a song next Tuesday. For some reason, they still haven't announced the title. Here’s a tweet between Kelsea and The Chainsmokers from earlier in the week, we’ll share the song with you as soon as it comes out!
Yesterday I told you about how this year’s “CMT Artists of the Year” special is going to be all female, and that every honoree will be a woman. The females in country music are celebrating that but at the same time female country artists are continuing to speak out about the misguided perception that they’re not as bankable as the males.
Billboard recently asked Kacey Musgraves about her album “Golden Hour” getting a CMA Album of the Year nomination, and instead of just talking about how thankful she was, she got real.
Kacey said, "Though I'm extremely honored, I have to say that the number of females included still doesn't satisfy me… especially considering the fact that I feel we're in a current time where more females are making good music."
The frustrating part is their good music isn't getting the exposure it deserves. And the reason is, as usual, because of dollars and cents. Since things are going well, and everyone's getting fat, why stir things up?
She went on to say, "The fear is that money will be lost if something different doesn't succeed. That is so dangerous to a wonderfully rich and beautifully historic genre that, at its core, has traditionally always celebrated the underdog."
And as you may know Cam is another female artist who says the people in charge are afraid of change. She says, "They're terrified. Label heads are saying, 'I don't know how to launch women.' I don't know how you can be in that job if you don't know how to do that. I think you should leave your job."
Her solution is to recruit more diversity INSIDE the industry. Cam said the industry needs to "Get candidates to be CEOs of labels who [are] women, people of color, LGBTQ, anybody who has a different perspective.
"Diverse companies create and support diverse products and can reach more people and are more profitable. It's been proven in other areas."
It sounds like this is something the women in country music are starting to speak more and more about openly, and no longer being afraid to share with fans how things are really going down, so I definitely think it’s something to keep our eyes open for.
Kelsea Ballerini is currently on vacation celebrating her 25th birthday and of course, has been sharing photos on Instagram. The first vacation celebration photo is Kelsea in a one piece posting on a palm tree on the beach, and the caption reads “25. In Mexico in the rain with 8 of the realest friends I’ve ever had playing card games and drinking tequila and I’m just real happy about this being the way I ring in this new year of my life”.
She’s shared a couple more photos from the vacation including a group shot with all of her friends dressed up probably getting ready to go out to dinner and celebrate:
And a photo where she’s wearing this gorgeous black dress, posing on the beach, and just looking absolutely stunning!
And we made a big concert announcement yesterday, Bud Light & Texas Music Office co-present Josh Abbott Band and friends at Floores September 27th for a private benefit show! Listen to win your tickets from Y100!
That is your Music City Minute!
This year's "CMT Artists of the Year" special is going to be all female. Every honoree will be a woman.
Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini… Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman… and Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott.
People are saying this could be their way of recognizing the #MeToo movement and maybe the lack of female Entertainer of the Year nominees at the CMAs and ACMs. Either way it’s definitely appreciated by the female arists.
Maren Morris Tweeted, "Thank you for narrowing the gap in this industry. Proud to be honored among friends this night." Kelsea Ballerini said, "Goodness, I love you CMT." Hillary Scott wrote, "This puts a smile on my face like no other."
And Little Big Town gave a shout-out, "Couldn't be any prouder to stand alongside these inspiring women. Thank you CMT." No word yet on the list of performers. The show will air October 17th.
Speaking of Carrie Underwood she will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Sept. 20.Carrie will receive the 2,646th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Two very important men in Carrie’s life will speak at the event--Simon Cowell and Brad Paisley--who have shared the television screen with Carrie numerous times. Simon was a judge on American Idol when Carrie was named the Season 4 winner in 2005. Brad and Carrie will co-host the CMA Awards for the 11th time on Nov. 14. And don’t forget Carrie’s new album “Cry Pretty” comes out Friday!
This is hilarious – so you might remember Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren recently vacationed in Italy, he shared the story of how they went on a moped-riding adventure:
Thomas Rhett: "Me and Lauren rented a moped, which was probably one of the worst best decisions we ever made. Our friends rented a moped as well, and they literally, when they pulled out of the moped parking lot, their moped fell onto the side, like in the middle of the street. Me and Lauren were like, are we still gonna do this? And Lauren was like, 'Yep.' And I was like, 'Alright, here we go.' And we literally drove that thing five hours up around Lake Como and saw George Clooney's house, and it was pretty awesome."
Luke Bryan scored the 21st No. 1 single of his career as "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset" made it to the top of the charts this week! Speaking of Luke Bryan – he’s been super busy! Last night he celebrated the official opening of his restaurant brand new bar, Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink in Nashville!
And Luke Bryan has started his own record label called 32 Bridge Entertainment. And the first artist he's signed is a man named Jon Langston, who is one of the performers on his upcoming Farm Tour. Luke says, "The ability to start a record label is such a dream come true for me."
Brett Young announced the title, release date, and track listing of his new album. It's called "Ticket to L.A." and it comes out December 7th. Brett and pop singer Gavin DeGraw co-wrote and perform on a track called "Chapters". Here’s the full track listing:
Kelsea Ballerini is about to add multi-media star to her resume. She's the newest coach on "The Voice"... but she's not replacing anyone. She's coaching a brand new online phase called The Comeback Stage.
Here's how that'll go. She'll personally select SIX performers who did NOT turn a chair during the blind auditions. She'll coach them as they compete against each other... two at a time... and then she'll pick one winner from each.
Those three will advance to the Comeback Stage Finals, and she'll choose two from that. And then those two will compete on the Live Playoffs Results show, which will air November 13th. That winner will move on to the regular competition.
The Comeback Stage will air on YouTube, Instagram TV, "The Voice" Official App, Facebook, and NBC.com. It'll debut on September 24th . . . the same day that the new season of "The Voice" debuts on NBC.
Kelsea hit up Instagram to say, "So excited to share that I'm joining the 'The Voice' family as the fifth coach for the first-ever Comeback Stage."
