McDonald's is making another effort to emphasize fitness and health by including fitness trackers in its Happy Meals.
Engadget reported that a Fitbit-like toy called Step-It will be available for four weeks in children's Happy Meals in the U.S. and Canada.
The Step-It fitness trackers, which come in six colors, blink depending on the level of activity of the child wearing them.
“Step-It is in line with McDonald’s general philosophy for Happy Meal toys, which is to make toys that encourage either physical or imagination-based play," McDonald’s Canada Senior Marketing Manager Michelle McIImoyle said in a statement to CityNews.
But according to The Associated Press, the fitness trackers may not last very long.
New York locations of the fast-food chain have stopped including the trackers in Happy Meals because the company has gotten some reports of potential skin irritations.
Terri Hickey, a McDonald's representative, told The Associated Press in an email that McDonald's is "fully investigating this issue" and restaurants are "offering our youngest guests an alternative Happy Meal toy."

Bloomberg reported that, beginning Aug. 15, the fast-food restaurant is debuting the Whopperito in restaurants across the U.S.
The Whopperito, as its name suggests, combines a burrito with Burger King's Whopper.
Instead of a bun, it's wrapped in a tortilla and filled with beef, pickles, lettuce, tomato and onions. It is topped with queso sauce instead of mayo.
"It's certainly one of the first times that we've tapped into the Tex-Mex category," North American Burger King President Alex Macedo said. "It's one of the fastest-growing categories. Consumers like the freshness of it. They like the mix of flavors."
The fast-food restaurant has not said if the new item is intended as a competitor to Chipotle, but it would not be unlikely if so.
The Whopperito will be sold for the next three to four months at $2.99.
Walk in, approach the kiosk, place your order via a large touch screen, then sit down and wait for the food to be brought to your table.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the future of McDonald’s.
The Chicago Tribune reported that franchisee Chris Habiger brought these upgrades and more to one of his restaurants in St. Joseph, Missouri, which opened to the public Thursday.
The 6,500-square-foot "McDonald’s of the future" includes table service, a dessert bar, tabletop video games for the kids, and fancier menu items like maple bacon, pico guacamole and grilled tomatoes.
Best of all, for the first few months of its operation, the restaurant will offer unlimited fries.
"Unlimited fries are just the beginning of what’s different," Habiger told The Chicago Tribune. "We’re making a shift from fast food to fast-casual."
We just hope some of these big changes make their way to every McDonald’s location soon.
First Burger King started selling hot dogs. Now Chipotle has announced plans to stir things up by expanding its burrito and taco offerings to burgers with a new restaurant called Tasty Made.
The restaurant is set to open in Lancaster, Ohio, this fall.
Tasty Made's menu will be mostly limited to burgers, fries and shakes, and the restaurant will aim to promote better, cleaner food and ingredients -- just like Chipotle.
"Early fast food burger restaurants generally had focused menus," Chipotle CEO Steve Ells said in a release. "We think there's great strength in that original fast food model and wanted to create a restaurant built around that. Making only burgers, fries and shakes with really great ingredients, we think we can appeal to people's timeless love of burgers, but in a way that is consistent with our long-term vision.
"Tasty Made will use Responsibly Raised brand beef (from animals that are raised in more humane ways and without the use of antibiotics or added hormones), shakes made with real ingredients including milk, cream, sugar, eggs and other natural ingredients, and fresh-made buns that are free of preservatives, dough conditioners and other artificial ingredients."
Chipotle, which found success in positioning itself as an alternative to traditional fast-food chains, has been struggling to win back customers after a series of food scares in past years.
Chipotle has already ventured in the direction of different cuisines. In 2001, the company opened an Asian food restaurant called ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen, which has 15 locations. The company also operates a pizza chain called Pizzeria Locale, which has five locations.

A Florida restaurant had bad luck when a health inspection report said a roach fell from the ceiling onto someone walking through the establishment -- the health inspector.
WPLG reported that the inspection took place at Argenti Pizza in Tamarac, Florida, and the insect fell from the ceiling onto an iPad that the inspector was holding.
The inspector said in his report that there were multiple other roaches in the establishment other than the one that plopped onto his iPad, WPLG reported. The restaurant was shut down shortly afterward.

McDonald's announced Wednesday that it will be expanding its popular all day breakfast menu.
The announcement comes nearly a year after the fast food giant announced the menu.
The Wall Street Journal reported the chain will add biscuits, McMuffins and other breakfast sandwiches to menus across the country in the fall.
The addition will remove the difference in all-day breakfast items available per region.
Currently, the southeast has biscuits and McGriddles as part of their menu and the rest of the country has McMuffins.
The new menu includes the egg McMuffin; sausage McMuffin with egg; sausage McMuffin; bacon egg and cheese biscuit; sausage biscuit with egg; sausage biscuit; sausage, egg and cheese McGriddles; sausage McGriddles; bacon, egg and cheese McGriddles; hotcakes; hotcakes and sausage; fruit and maple oatmeal; fruit 'n yogurt parfait; sausage burrito and hash browns.
The new menu will launch in September.
Barnes & Noble is merging books and booze to save its book business.
The bookseller is opening four concept stores around the U.S. that will feature full restaurants that sell beer and wine.
Barnes & Noble already has Starbucks cafes in most of its bookstores, but the new restaurants will feature breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, and a server will take your order.
The first store will open in Eastchester, New York, in October. The three other stores will be in Edina, Minnesota; Folsom, California; and Loudoun County, Virginia, Fortune reported.
Ever been eating KFC and wondered why the container the chicken came in didn't give you the ability to charge your phone? We haven't either. But the chain decided to put a phone charger in one of its boxes anyway.
It's called the Watt A Box. Get it? Watt A Box. It's available for a limited time only in India. It comes with the food you might expect from the fried chicken establishment, as well as a power bank and phone charger for iPhones and Androids.
A KFC India representative told The Times of India: "We launched the 5-in-1 Meal Box in March this year with the objective of providing an abundant complete meal and at an affordable price for our customers. With the launch of Watt a Box, we have gone a step ahead and also introduced an element of utility into the box."
According to the outlet, a handful of customers will get a Watt A Box at select locations in Mumbai and Delhi.
