Lady Gaga hasn’t kept it a secret that releasing her recent ARTPOP album has been a struggle, especially where her management team is concerned. The problems were so bad that at the end of November, she and her longtime manager, Troy Carter, split over creative differences about the album. Yikes!
And now, thanks to more disputes with her former team, Lady Gaga’s issued a formal apology to her fans to explain what’s been going on behind the scenes — and why it forced her to release the music video for her current single, “Do What U Want” later than anticipated.
“It is late because, just like with the Applause video, unfortunately, I was given a week to plan and execute it,” Lady Gaga wrote on her Little Monsters website Sunday night. “It is very devastating for someone like me, I devote every moment of my life to creating fantasies for you … Those who have betrayed me gravely mismanaged my time and health and left me on my own to damage control any problems that ensued as a result.”
But, Gaga insisted, this has nothing to do with her label, Interscope, who was apparently unaware that any of this was going on — and the people she trusts most, like photographers and designers who have “always stood by” her, have worked very hard to make sure her fans have stayed unaware of the mess that’s been everything ARTPOP since the album’s release.
“The next few months of ARTPOP will truly be its beginning,” Lady Gaga said. “Because those who did not care about ARTPOP’s success are now gone, and the dreams I have been planning can now come to fruition … Let me be for you the Goddess that I know I truly am, let me show you the visions that have been in my mind for two years. I love you. Forgive me monsters. Forgive me ARTPOP. You are my whole world.”
And hey, while we’re doing apologies… is it too much to ask for some sort of explanation from Justin Bieber? We can only dream.
