As the grandson of Conjunto legend and pioneer Ismael Gonzalez, Dan has his roots deep in the Lone Star State’s fertile musical ground. Drawn to Texas singer-songwriters, such as Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen, as well as classic rockers like Tom Petty and the Eagles, Dan’s songs have a pop sensibility with enough blues and rock electricity to get the dance floor jumping and the crowd rocking.
During the early 2000′s, Dan started performing in San Antonio with the cover band, Prime Suspects. After a few years of playing local clubs, his drive to play his own material prompted him to leave the group, and form his own band. He quickly assembled some of the top sidemen from the San Antonio area, forming the Dan Gonzalez Band. The group’s current lineup is Matt Alpert (Lead Guitar), Al Hockley (Keys), Brent Martin (Drums), and Mike McLean (Bass.)
The Dan Gonzalez Band’s first break came in 2010 when the group landed a show opening for national touring band, Matt King in San Antonio. Since then, the band has opened for a number of national acts, including Uncle Lucius, Emory Quinn. The band brings a collective 90 plus years of performing experience to their high-energy live shows, which blend pure showmanship with razor sharp musical talent.
The group recently completed their debut album Long Way Dow at one of San Antonio’s finest recording houses, Chris Lieck Studios. The record blends a variety of Texas styles, including country, rock, blues, and singer-songwriter folk, all tied together by Dan’s soulful vocals and pop sensibilities. The record features guest appearances from notable San Antonio musicians, including Nathan Rigby of Emory Quinn and singers Nicolette Good, Melissa Ludwig, and Sylvia Kirk. Additionally, Long Way Down was mastered by the Grammy-Award winning producer Chris Lieck.
With their debut album released, the Dan Gonzalez Band is ready to take their brand of Texas music throughout the Lone Star State and beyond.
