A Grammy-nominated artist, she has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma in the recording of Silk Road and worked with renowned musicians including Tan Dun and the Kronos Quartet.Hailed as “the future of classical music in America” by the Los Angeles Times, The Knights are an ensemble of adventurous musicians from the New York music scene who cultivate collaborative music making and creatively engage audiences in the shared joy of musical performance. Their unique roster includes composers, arrangers, singer-songwriters, and improvisers who bring a range of cultural influences to the group including jazz, klezmer, pop, and indie rock music. The orchestra’s extensive repertoire features traditional and contemporary masterworks of classical, popular, and world music in collaboration with such artists as soprano Dawn Upshaw and violinist Gil Shaham. The Knights – “…talented and vivacious Brooklyn indie orchestra.” THE NEW YORK TIMES“Wu Man is one of the rare musicians who has changed the history of the instrument she plays.” BOSTON GLOBEOptimum Pipa Plucking, Surrounded by Friends: Wu Man and the Knights at Asia Society – New York Times Review2012 Musical America Instrumentalist of the YearMUSICAL PROGRAMConcerto in E-flat (Dumbarton Oaks) Tempo Giusto Allegretto Con moto Igor Stravinsky (1882 – 1971) Concerto for Pipa and String Orchestra Allegro Bits and Pieces: Troika Bits and Pieces: Three Sharing Bits and PIeces: Wind and Plum Bits and Pieces: Neopolitan Threnody for Richard Locke Estampie Lou Harrison (1917 – 2003) INTERMISSIONPrelude a l’après-midi d’un faune Claude Debussy (1862 – 1918) Arr.
