Top Things You Should Never Say To Your Kids

Parenting is not what it used to be. The world is full of new technology, social media, and is always changing. It’s easy for parents to go into “autopilot” but according to a few studies; we still have to watch we say around (and to) our kids. Let’s take a look at the top things parents should NOT say to their kids.

1. “Don’t eat that or you’ll get fat.”

According to a study published in “Eating and Weight Disorders”, parents should focus on the benefits of eating healthy as opposed to focusing on the negative. For example if your child isn’t thrilled about the broccoli on their plate, mention how you’re excited to make your bones stronger by eating broccoli or share these benefits with your child.

2. “I’m disappointed in you.”

Lisa Cavallaro, author of “No More Drama: How to Make Peace With Your Defiant Kid” says that this can only add to the shame and pain your child might be experiencing. Trying to make them feel responsible for your disappointment can have damaging long-term effects.

3. “You’re fine!”

A common phrase among parents who are scraping the rocks off their children’s knees, but experts advise that parents should take their children’s concerns more seriously. What may seem like a non-issue to you could be extremely important to your child at that time.

4. “ Great job!”

This one might be a confusing one but according to experts, this phrase is overused even in times when the child does a mediocre job. Experts advise “being present” in the moment by highlighting the positive details versus the generic and common “great job”.

What are some other things that should be on this list? Sound off below!

Music City Minute: News On Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, & Kix Brooks!

Jason Aldean is sharing a collection of stories about the people closest to him in a new book titled Family, Friends and Fans. Written with Tom Carter, Jason's first book explores his rise to fame and also chronicles the lessons he's learned from several special people in his life and career. The book will give a glimpse inside Aldean's relationships with everyone from his parents and producer to his band members and wife Brittany. Family, Friends and Fans is available now and can be found here

This is interesting, Carrie Underwood is being sued for copyright infringement in a lawsuit brought by two Canadian songwriters. Apparently two song writers claim that they composed the chorus, melody and lyrics to a song titled "Something in the Water" in August of 2012 and pitched it to Carrie’s team the next month. The songwriters allege that the hook of the song they wrote is identical to the one in Carrie’s song "Something in the Water," which appears on her 2014 album, Greatest Hits: Decade #1. The plaintiffs are reportedly asking for a jury trial and any profits the song has generated. We’ll definitely keep you posted on how this plays out.

This is pretty hilarious apparently someone hacked Kix Brooks Facebook and was sending messages to a bunch of Kix’s friends asking if they are single and to shoot him a text. Well, the hacker isn’t very smart sent the message to Kix Brooks wife!

Toys R’ Us Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

It’s a sad time for any of us who wanted to remain a ‘”Toys ‘R’ Us Kid”. The longtime retailer of children’s toys filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on Monday. According to CNBC, “Chapter 11 protection allows the company to restructure $400 million in debt due in 2018, another $1.7 billion due in 2019, and then renegotiate the rest.”

The toy chain has continued to struggle in the baby and toy market with online retailers taking over; online retailers have knocked out of many brick-and-mortar chains in the toy and baby space. The convenience of online ordering has continued to improve with technology while leaving the aisles of stores like Toys R’ Us empty.

Music City Minute: News On Maren Morris, LANCO, & Little Big Town

There will always be haters out there, especially if you're famous, like Maren Morris.

People were posting negative comments about the outfits she wore on "The Tonight Show" and during a concert at Madison Square Garden. So Maren decided she wasn’t going to sit back and let it happen, she had enough so she fired back on Saturday.

Thousands of people liked her post… and that included some friends who came to her defense. Raelynn tweeted:

LANCO’S Brandon Lancaster got married on Sunday to a lovely lady named Tiffany Trotter. She's the one who inspired him to write "Greatest Love Story". It's loosely based on them falling in love, breaking up, and then getting back together.

Here’s something you might find surprising, he didn't sing the song to her at the wedding because, well, they already had that moment. He says, "I played it for Tiffany on an acoustic guitar years ago. That was our moment with the song." See more of the beautiful wedding photos.

Country music is still mourning the loss of Montgomery Gentry singer Troy Gentry. But some happiness can still be found. Little Big Town did their best to bring a little joy and honor Gentry’s memory during a residency show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium over the weekend.

Music City Minute: News on Alabama, Kelsea Ballerini, & Kenny Chesney!

It’s September so why not talk about Christmas! Alabama announced they’re coming out with a holiday album called American Christmas,October 6th! The 15-track album marks the band's first holiday release in 21 years, following their 1996 project, Alabama Christmas Vol. II.

The new album will be a collection of holiday favorites such as "Away In A Manger" and "Silent Night" as well as four new songs contributed by the band. The album also includes an updated version of Alabama's classic "Christmas In Dixie," which celebrates its 35th Anniversary this year.

Kelsea Ballerini’s bachelorette party went down over the weekend in Vegas! She saw Jennifer Lopez perform, they took a selfie together, and then Kelsea and her friends hung out at the pool.

Let's start with the plane ride. She posted a clip of herself hamming it up in the aisle and imitating Kristen Wiig's character in "Bridesmaids" where she says, "I'm ready to party with the best of them."

Two brothers who were stuck in Hurricane Irma were rescued and flown to safety in a private jet, provided by an anonymous donor… who turned out to be Kenny Chesney. So much for staying anonymous… CNN reporter Sara Sidner is the one who did this report, and presumably used public records about the plane to connect it to Kenny. These two brothers lived on the island of St. John with their grandfather, and their house was destroyed. Kenny provided his plane to reunite them with their mother in Philadelphia.

Music City Minute: Country Star Announces Twins, New Big & Rich Music, and Troy Gentry’s Heartfelt Memorial

Troy Gentry’s memorial was held yesterday at the Grand Ole Opry. Little Big Town sang "The Star-Spangled Banner"… Halfway To Hazard performed "My Old Kentucky Home"…and Vince Gill encouraged Eddie Montgomery to lean on "this family" at the Opry.

Vince said, “I would encourage Eddie, I hope you’ll lean on this family, it’s a good one. Don’t disappear, come out here and let this family love you, this family has a long history of loss, and I just encourage you to stay within this family.”

The video screens during the funeral showed personal photos from Troy’s life, his family, and his career in Montgomery Gentry. "Bat-Signals" were beamed onto the walls, and that's no disrespect. He LOVED Batman. Our thoughts and prayers are with Troy’s family and friends.

Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott will soon be welcoming two more little girls to her growing family. Hillary took to Instagram yesterday, revealing that the twins she's expecting both girls! The new bundles of joy will join older sister, Eisele, and it appears that the four year old can hardly wait. Hillary writes in the caption, "Eisele is so excited to have her very own living baby dolls." And mom and dad are equally as excited, she says, "Chris and I are beyond grateful that we get to raise a household of little ladies, and can't wait to watch and help them grow into kind, independent, and confident women!"

We talked to Big & Rich earlier about their new album that’s out today called “Did It For The Party” – the album will include 13 brand-new songs, all of which are being produced by “Big Kenny” Alphin and John Rich. The release describes the record as “classic Big & Rich, featuring a combination of upbeat anthems … while also showing the hell raisers’ softer side.”

“This new record is gonna rock America’s boots off,” says John Rich in the press release. Adds Big Kenny, “It’s been a blast working on this album, and we can’t wait for everyone to hear our new songs!”

An update on tragic loss of Troy Gentry on Friday. Turns out the helicopter ride was an impromptu, spur of the moment thing. An investigator described it as a, "Would you like to go for a helicopter ride?"

That explains why Troy's bandmate Eddie Montgomery was not with him. The concert was going to be AT the airport, and they had just arrived by bus when Troy accepted the invitation to go for a ride.

The Grand Ole Opry will be celebrating Troy's life with a public ceremony on Thursday at 11:00 AM. It'll be live streamed at

Music City Minute: A Sad Time for Country Music

Reactions began pouring in on social media on Friday after the news broke that country music world had lost both Don Williams and Montgomery Gentry's Troy Gentry. Here's what some of their fellow country stars reacted to the incredibly sad news:

Blake Shelton‏: Found this picture of me and my old friend Troy a few days ago.. I am heart broken. Also just hearing about the passing of Don Williams.. terrible day.

Brad Paisley‏: God bless you Troy Gentry. Heartbroken and in disbelief.

Rascal Flatts‏: Shocked and saddened by the sudden, tragic loss of Troy today. He was a friend and a good man. Prayers go out to his precious family.

Chris Young: And Don Williams has passed... what a legend... this is truly a sad day for country music #RIP

Jason Aldean‏: RIP "T-Roy" #MontgomeryGentry

Lee Brice‏: The world changed today. Country music lost both a Friend and a Hero. Troy Gentry and Don Williams, you both will be dearly missed..

Brothers Osborne‏: So tragic. Met him a few times and he was so kind and welcoming. Great singer and even better person. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

William Michael Morgan‏: Only met Troy once. He couldn't have been any nicer. So sad! Prayers for his family, Eddie, & all his fans!

It was a long weekend for Kenny Chesney he revealed that his home on the island of St John in U.S. Virgin Islands was destroyed during Hurricane Irma. Kenny says more than 20 people and 10 dogs were sheltering in his home at the time the hurricane hit, but thankfully everyone is okay. He says they thought that since the home was made out of structurally sound materials like stone and concrete it would make a good shelter, but the strength of Irma was too great. Despite the home's windows being tested to withstand winds of up to 200 miles per hour, Kenny says all of them were blown out in the storm.

After hearing about the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean islands, Kenny Chesney immediately started a foundation where people can donate funds to help those affected by the storm. The new foundation will be called "Love For Love City," a reference to the nickname of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands where he owns a home. Kenny promised that a "musical connection" to help raise money was also in the works.

New Music Friday!!

Thank GOODNESS it’s Friday and thank GOODNESS for some new country!! Thomas Rhett, Kip Moore, Dustin Lynch, AND Blake Shelton all released new music today. Blake Shelton’s new single “I’ll Name The Dogs” doesn’t come off of a new album while Thomas, Dustin, and Kip all have singles out now from their new albums. Thomas Rhett’s latest single “Unforgettable” comes off his album ‘Life Changes’, Kip Moore’s “More Girls Like You” comes from his ‘Slowheart’ album, and Dustin Lynch’s “Small Town Boy” comes off of his album ‘Current Mood’.

You can check out two songs from Kip Moore’s ‘Slowheart’ below!

Dustin Lynch fans will easily spot “Small Town Boy” on his new album ‘Current Mood’ but Dustin keeps the party alive on his album with songs like “I Wish You Were Beer”.

Some controversy sparked when fans of Thomas Rhett discovered the song “Leave Right Now” closely resembles an electronic dance track somewhat inspired by the Chainsmokers. Rhett said of the criticism:

“Anytime you go to a country music concert, everyone is playing hip-hop or EDM as their pre-roll. And I got tired of my intro being way cooler than my show. So why not make one of mine that can be my intro that's as cool as my show?"

If it’s any consolation for some of the disgruntled hardcore country fans, you’ll be able to find a duet of Thomas Rhett and his dad, Rhett Akins on a song called “Drink A Little Beer”. Many fans will immediately recognize Thomas Rhett’s number one single “Craving You” featuring Maren Morris on the album!

While Blake Shelton hasn’t released a new album he did release a six song EP ‘Blake Shelton (Live)’ two weeks ago. Blake’s latest single “I’ll Name The Dogs” has sparked some theories as to whether or not Shelton’s single is a jab at ex-wife Miranda Lambert. What do you think?
