Music City Minute: Chris Young, CMA Promos, & Kacey Musgraves!

Last night at the Grand Ole Opry, Brad Paisley officially made Chris Young the latest member of the Opry family. Before he performed and was given Opry membership on stage, Chris talked about just how important being a member of the Opry is to him:

He said, “You know I was sitting there on my bus the other day with a bunch of my guys going, ‘Man, we have played some of the crappiest bars on the face of the planet together and tomorrow we’re all gonna get dressed up and they’re gonna induct me in as the new member of the Grand Ole Opry. And the only way that I know how to make anybody understand what the level of meaning that is at least to me is ‘Is there anything that I could put over this for relevance and the amount of how big an honor it is to be asked to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry, no.”

The CMAs released promos for next month's show. They feature Carrie UnderwoodBrad PaisleyKeith UrbanKelsea Ballerini, and Garth Brooks

Kacey Musgraves hit up Instagram photos of her wedding to singer-songwriter Ruston Kelly. She captioned one, "Saturday, in a sacred place where two rivers meet and join together, I married my best friend… barefoot and surrounded by the deepest kind of magic and love that exists. I've never felt so tranquil and happy."

Music City Minute: Chris Young, Kelsea Ballerini, Brett Eldredge

A lot of country artists are starting to announce tour dates for next year. So I’ve decided to use context clues and assume that some of them are coming to the San Antonio Rodeo even though the lineup hasn’t been announced yet. Chris Young says he’s is planning his biggest tour yet, the "Losing Sleep" tour. I’m going to go ahead and make an educated guess, but also say a prayer that he’ll come back to the rodeo this year. Chris’s new album also comes out Friday! Check out the clip of “Leave Me Wanting More” this album is going to be amazing!

Also, Brantley Gilbert just announced new tour dates so I’m hoping he’ll be included in the rodeo line up too. Maybe we’ll get lucky and get both of them? No word on when the rodeo line up we’ll be announced but we’ll keep you posted.

Kelsea Ballerini has some inspiring words for anyone who's feeling bad because they recently failed at something.

She talked about it in a recent interview "Failure is so important. I feel like failure can reroute your life.

"It sounds silly, but in eighth grade I was one of two girls who didn't make the cheerleading squad. And you know what? That was the year I picked up a guitar and wrote a song."

The idea that she did NOT make it at one thing, gave her the drive to focus on something else. Kelsea says, "Failure is what keeps you on your path. It also gives you a pause to breathe before something great happens."

Brett Eldredge spends a lot of time getting to know "Duck Dynasty's" Sadie Robertson in the video to his song, “The Long Way”. It's from his self-titled album that came out in August.

Google Honors Selena With Her Own ‘Doodle’

On October 17, 1989 the Tejano world changed forever when a girl from Corpus Christi, Texas released her self-titled debut studio album ‘Selena’. Selena Quintanilla would go on to become known as the ‘Queen of Tejano’ and even 28 years later, her music continues to draw the same excitement from fans as it did back in ‘89.

Google decided to honor the music legend with her very own ‘Doodle’ or a customized Google animation. Tejano fans who visit Google will spot the image right away. To see the video homage, click the image and enjoy.

If you’d rather skip out on visiting Google to see the video, you can check it out here!

Music City Minute: Thomas Rhett, Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton

Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on Thursday, sending each other sweet messages on Instagram. Thomas said that a lot has changed since their last anniversary, writing, "We have cried a little but have laughed and loved harder than we ever have. Love you baby! Here's to so many more. You + me." The message was accompanied by a photo of the couple with their two daughters, Willa Gray and Ada James. Lauren then wrote on her Instagram, "If this is 5 years, can't wait to see what forever looks like. I love you so much."

Kacey Musgraves married fellow country singer Ruston Kelly on Saturday in Tennessee. As you'd expect, they kept it under wraps… at least until he let it out on Instagram.

He wrote, "Last night as a bachelor. Finally ready to throw in that towel, [because] I actually found the real thing. Couldn't be more proud to have all our family and friends here to honor this new badass union."

Early Saturday morning he really got to the point and posted: "I'm like, getting married today."

Kacey also dropped the news on Saturday morning when she Tweeted the word "Today" next to emojis of a bride and two hearts.

And then some 24 hours later she posted a photo of a flower bouquet… and captioned it, "The sweet morning after the most unbelievably magical night."

Carrie Underwood is well known for her love of animals — she even has her own charity devoted to their welfare (Oklahoma’s Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation, aka C.A.T.S.). However, there is one four-legged critter out there that she’s scared of and thinks it’s weird.

It’s … a turtle.

She posted a cute photo of her son Isaiah interacting with a large turtle, the singer added a hilarious caption in which she admits, “I’m fine with snakes and spiders and anything else that most people find scary, but turtles are NOT OK.”

Chris Stapleton will be here Friday at the AT&T Center and we’re hookin’ you up with last minute tickets to the show all week at 6:25 with Secret Celebrity. Over the weekend Chris made an announcement on when we can expect a new album:

Music City Minute: Garth Brooks, Lee Brice, & Eric Church

Garth Brooks used to make news for retiring, and un-retiring… but those days are over. Completely. He says, "I can tell you my retiring days are behind me. I can tell you, you're gonna have to throw me out now."

Garth also wants you to know that artists who whine about touring are full of it. He also says, "If anybody sits up here and tells you that touring is working for a living, they're lying to you. It's the sweetest, easiest thing I've ever got to do."

Lee Brice has a new album coming out November 3rd and he wanted the sound to be real and full of emotion, and he felt the best way to do that would be to simplify.

Lee says, "There are no computer tricks, no artificial sounds. I set out to make an album that sounded like an album. An album that specifically had groove to it, without tricks.

"I wanted it to be me and my players and my actual drummer and my bass player, playing instruments, period."

He's very serious about this. Lee says, "Even when it sounds like a computer, I promise, we figured out a way to make that sound, to me, being real was everything. I wanted to put a little piece of everything about me, everything I am on this record." Lee will be back at Cowboys December 2nd, this is his current heartfelt single “Boy”:

Eric Church makes music for his fans, not the critics. So it makes no sense to him that the press gets their hands on the music before the people who are going to buy it. He says, "When you make a new record, critics are the mouthpiece to say, 'Hey, go buy this record'… and that's so backwards to me. Your biggest mouthpiece is the fans." If you’re a big fan of Eric Church don’t forget his concert special is tonight starting at 7 on the Audience Music Network – DirectTV Channel 239 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 1114!

Wife of Fallen Soldier Receives Help From His Comrades For Gender Reveal

Army Spc. Christopher Michael Harris, 25, of Jackson Springs, North Carolina, was killed while deployed in Afghanistan back in August. Before Harris passed away, his wife, Britt Harris, discovered she was pregnant with the couple’s first child. She told him a week before she received news that her husband was killed serving our country.

Harris was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 504th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division based in North Carolina according to the Department of Defense.

Britt Harris didn’t want the U.S. Army and Harris’s comrades to feel left out as they were still mourning their fallen friend and soldier. Harris got to work by contacting the Army and shipped confetti poppers to Afghanistan for the soldiers. In a video posted to YouTube, the troops gathered in front of an American flag with the poppers in hand, check out the reveal below!

Congratulations to the Harris Family and a HUGE THANK YOU to those who serve for their sacrifices.

Music City Minute: Chris Janson, Keith Urban, & Kip Moore

The Grand Ole Opry is known for bringing country stars together for one-of-a-kind performances, and one of those collaborations took place on Tuesday night's show. During the show, Keith Urban took the Opry stage with Chris Janson to perform a rendition of the '90s classic "Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)," originally recorded by John Michael Montgomery and it was awesome:

Speaking of Keith Urban, he will share his music industry knowledge at SXSW next year. Keith is booked as a featured speaker for the 2018 conference in Austin, Texas next March.

You might remember Garth Brooks gave a keynote speech at SXSW in 2017, and kicked off his visit to Texas with a press conference, where he debuted a new single and announced that he’d close out SXSW 2017 with a free show. His performance at SXSW’s outdoor riverfront stage marked his first official Austin concert in 20-plus years.

SXSW featured speakers are generally storytellers, creative visionaries and change-makers in the industry — The 2018 SXSW Conference and Festival runs from March 9-18. Industry professionals and music fans can register to attend beginning Oct. 20th.

Keith Urban has not revealed whether he’ll perform while in Austin next year.

Somethin’ you may not know about Kip Moore is that he’s sold more than 4 million albums, racked up a No. 1 hit (“Somethin’ About a Truck”) and five more Top 20 singles, and headlined sold-out shows all over the country. The surprising part is Kip Moore has only has two CMA nominations to his name over his career.

That may not seem like an impressive or fair number, taking into account his other stats. However, this doesn’t pose a problem for Kip. He says he’s simply too busy making music for his fans to worry much about accolades.

Kip says, “I think that anybody, any artist, would find joy in being recognized, and I think that if I was up for something or to win something, of course it would be humbling, and I would be thankful, But it doesn’t dictate how I feel. It’s not going to break me one way or the other.”

Music City Minute: Lauren Alaina, Chris Stapleton, Y100 8 Man Jam

This is so cute! So, Lauren Alaina’s song Road Less Traveled, is actually featured in a movie with the same name. The movie is set to make its debut on CMT next month, on November 10th at 8 PM. Based off the song, the film follows a Country singer named Charlotte (played by Lauren) who returns home to Tennessee a week before her wedding and runs into an old high school sweetheart. Check out the trailer for the movie:

Like a lot of artists Chris Stapleton is mourning the loss of Tom Petty, who died on Oct. 2nd. At a concert on Oct. 5 in Moline, Ill. Chris said “I had the opportunity to play with Tom Petty earlier this year and the last thing he said to me was, ‘I hope we get an opportunity to do this again, and I left there thinking that we might. And I sure am sad that I won’t get to.”

Chris Stapleton paid tribute to Tom Petty with a cover of “Learning to Fly.”
