The Coney Island Cyclone broke down midride Saturday, forcing thrill-seekers to climb down the iconic roller coaster, the New York Post reports.

Apparently, the car came to a halt right before a large drop on the 88-year-old attraction. The 24 people on board were stranded for five minutes before officials led them to safety, first-time rider Matt Levin told the Post

"It was a little scary," Levin said. "I mean, you look down and you’re pretty high up. And so it was a little bit scary. But at the end of the day … you know, I always wanted to go on the Cyclone. Some people had warned against it, and now I know why."

The ride also broke down March 29 with 12 riders on board, the Post said.

Hybrid wood-steel coaster opens in southern California

Twisted Colossus, which is part wood, part steel, is expected to be wildly popular this summer and possibly set the standard for how to revamp an old wooden roller coaster.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is home to the 4,990-foot-long wood-steel hybrid ride, which opens to the general public Saturday.

The new ride has had steel tracks added to the 1978 wooden structure, Colossus, according to the Los Angeles Times. The structure features dueling coasters with slight differences in route. The first part of the coaster is done on the blue track, and the second part is on the green portion, according to the Times report.

The most unusual feature about the new ride is a "high-five element" that, when done properly, places both trains side-by-side at 90-degree angles allowing for a potential high-five; the execution of the actual high-five is reportedly undoable, but it's one-of-a-kind nonetheless.

Idaho's Rocky Mountain Construction developed Twisted Colossus and similar upgrades to wooden coasters at Six Flags throughout the nation are expected in the coming years.

Four clouded leopard cubs are healthy, growing and adorable at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington, Seattle's KIRO-TV reports. Their eyes are still closed, and the practiced hands of caring zookeepers guide their eager mouths to the bottles.

The smallest of the cubs weighs just 11.11 ounces and the largest is 12.41, which is about the same weight as a box of corn flakes. Two of them will fit in the palms of a zookeeper's hands.

Staff biologist Andy Goldfarb, who has worked with exotic cats for three decades, is pleased with their progress.

"They are eating and gaining weight," he said. "All four are active and moving around well."

The quadruplets were born May 12 to Chai Li. Their father is her mate, Nah Fun.

They are not yet on exhibit. The zoo will announce later this month when the public will be able to see them and reveal details on how and when they'll be named.

One feeding session for all four cubs takes about two hours, and the cubs require feeding about every three hours. There is a lot of care besides giving bottles of formula that must be done for each cub, Goldfarb said.

Hand-raising cubs is routine in the Association of Zoos & Aquariums' Species Survival Plan program for clouded leopards and produces the best results for their health and well-being, zoo General Curator Karen Goodrowe Beck said.

"These cats are precious," Goldfarb said. "Clouded leopards are endangered, and there is constant pressure on the species from poaching, habitat loss and other human-animal conflict."

In honor of the 95th birthday of the fifth-oldest roller coaster in the world, one man has ridden the Jack Rabbit at Kennywood Park 95 times in one day.

Vic Kleman, 82, of Pittsburgh, has kept track of how many times he’s been on the Jack Rabbit since his first ride in 1959.

Kleman began riding the roller coaster at approximately 10:30 a.m. Sunday and broke the 5,000-ride barrier just after 7:30 p.m., spending a total of nine hours on the coaster.

“The thrill of riding the Jack Rabbit never gets old for me,” Kleman said. “It just makes me feel good.”

“It takes a certain kind of commitment, and craziness, to ride a roller coaster 95 times in a row," said Jerome Gibas, Kennywood general manager. "But those are the kind of feelings Kennywood creates in people."

Kleman said he felt great after finishing the feat and added he made sure to exercise his legs after sitting down for so long.
